PTA helps to financially support all our teachers and staff to directly impact our students! While the school district has allocated funds for each staff member, the extra funds from PTA allow them more flexibility to go above and beyond to meet students' needs. Here's how Nurse Jenn uses some of her PTA budget to further serve our kids.
Stickers, Tooth Boxes/Necklaces
PTA extra funds let Nurse Jenn purchase stickers for lost teeth and positive stickers that may simply brighten a child’s day with the reminder to “Feel better!” Speaking of losing teeth: she stocks tooth boxes/necklaces for all the lost teeth during the school day. Your child's super cute tooth necklace was purchased because of your support in PTA!
Coban Tape
Last year Nurse Jenn just started using coban tape, which LISD does not provide, when a parent donated a bunch. Now she can buy more!
“WOW, does it (coban tape) help BIG TIME with little twisted ankles as well as when I have kids that have eczema issues and I need to slather them with Vaseline and tape is not their friend,” says Nurse Jenn.
Optichambers
She has purchased optichambers to be used with inhalers. “I have noticed way too often that optichambers are not given by pediatricians. I went to a school nurse symposium several years ago where a respiratory therapist showed a thermographic map where those who used an inhaler without the spacer – 80% of the medication goes into their stomach as opposed to their lungs. So, I have given many of them each year to families.”
Germ Teaching Tools
A recent purchase (pictured): “My new giant microbes: my sore throat (streptococcus pyogenes), my stomachache (shigella dysenteriae) and you know my friend COVID-19. I am excited to use these to teach our younger kiddos about germs and why we wash our hands and catch our coughs. I am forever grateful for all (PTA does) for not only me but for the teachers. We are truly blessed!!!”
We are truly blessed by YOU, Nurse Jenn!!
