Hicks PTA Newsletter Volume 5 Issue 1- August 23, 2023

Welcome back, Timberwolves! 

Summer break is over and we’re all excited to be back in the swing of things at Hicks. This Hicks Howler newsletter is full of fun events coming up, so mark your calendars and don't miss out!

I’m Tina Verma, your 2023-2024 PTA President. My husband Raja and I have two daughters in the Spanish Immersion program: Remy is in fifth grade, Gia is in third grade, and we absolutely LOVE being part of the Hicks family. 

PTA  is already hard at work, planning events and fundraisers, fulfilling teachers’ classroom needs, and helping make every child’s potential a reality- which is the PTA mission. A big thanks to everyone who has already joined for the year; we couldn’t do any of these great things without you!

If you’re not a member yet, is it because you think PTA is not for you? Think again! Hicks PTA is for everyone - parents, teachers, grandparents, students, community members, role models, and more. Six years ago, a friend encouraged me to get involved with PTA, and even predicted I’d be PTA President someday, and here I am! To pay it forward, I would like to share with you all the gift of encouragement that was given to me. If you want to be more involved in your child’s school life, the PTA is a perfect place to make a difference, big or small. Whether you want to volunteer as much as possible, or have zero time to spare, there is a role for you! 

Our PTA members contribute in so many different ways - and it all MATTERS! Whether you simply pay your annual dues, help teachers prep projects at home, volunteer from time to time, chair an event, or take on a leadership role, there is an opportunity for everyone to contribute to the success of our Hicks community of students, teachers, staff and families. The PTA is not a stay at home mom’s club, we’re an invaluable resource for our school as a 501c non-profit organization, and we want all of our Hicks families to feel welcome and appreciated by the PTA. The Hicks Kindergartners received their class assignments last Friday with a t-shirt reveal and a celebratory walk through the hallway! Thank you to all of the teachers and staff for coordinating this event and the parent volunteers who made these awesome door decorations!  

Here is a reminder of how to update your students information and select their teacher for the school year.   This is an important step to make sure that you are receiving information for your current classroom via the message board.  If you haven't updated this information yet or if your child has a new teacher please fill this out ASAP.  We don't want anyone to miss important messages from their room parent.  Go to HicksPTA.com to get started!

Please visit the link below to complete the Back to School Packet.  When you visit our website you will also be able to find up to date information on the events and fundraisers we organize throughout the year. Even if you don't have time to volunteer at school, joining the PTA will keep you informed about what the PTA is doing at Hicks to fulfill our mission, to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. 

We are still taking applications for room parent. Please fill out your back to school packet where you can find the room parent interest form or reach out directly to our room parent coordinator, Jessica Fagyas, and let her know you are interested. THESroomparent@gmail.com.

Please join us for our first Spirit Event of the year, this Friday, August 25th!  

Stop in and grab a sandwhich and more at the Jersey Mikes at 3555 Legacy Drive. 20% of the days sales will be donated to Hicks!  

Step right up and save the date for this year's Fall Carnival!

The carnival is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need your help to make it happen! There are still opportunities to volunteer or serve on a committee. Our next committee meeting will be Thursday August 31st at 1pm.  Look out for communications with more details.

Mark your calendars for our Fall Book Fair!

What a better way to celebrate your student's birthday and support Hicks than by putting their name on the marquee or surprising them with a visit from Timbo!

Hicks 5th graders wearing a school t-shirt can run through the Super H before the game and get free admission.  Game time has been moved to 7:30pm due to heat.  Parents must buy tickets, please visit our website for more event details. 

Our friends at Arbor Creek Middle School PTA have put together this flyer to support their feeder schools and encourage participation in events amongst the campuses.  Give ACMS PTA a follow on Facebook and when you see this photo tagged in their posts you know it's an event or information they would like to share with Hicks Families!
